Meet Jasmin, a proud Aboriginal woman, a future physiotherapist, and someone who’s always done life a little differently. With a deep-rooted belief that she was born with healing hands, Jasmin’s studying to bring a bit of “native spice” as she calls it, to the world of physiotherapy and honestly, we’re obsessed with that energy.
Her body journey has been one of growth, self-awareness, and learning to quiet that all-too-familiar inner critic. “At the moment, my body journey has never been better,” she says. “But I still strive for a positive mindset, and to be okay with that negative voice that troubles me as a young woman.” It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s something so many of us can relate to.
Two years ago, Jasmin met the love of her life. Since then, she’s not only felt seen and cherished in love but challenged to dive deeper into her own self-discovery. “I don’t pretend to be perfect,” she tells us. “Because I’m perfectly imperfect.”
This shoot marks a first for Jasmin, her very first studio session. She’s stepping into it with open arms, excited to see herself through a new lens (literally and metaphorically). “I want to see another version of myself. I’m all about chasing new perspectives,” she says. More than anything, she hopes to inspire other Aboriginal and mixed-race women, especially her mob here in WA to celebrate themselves, exactly as they are.
When asked about media representation, Jasmin doesn’t mince words. “The media could do much better,” she says. “Especially when it comes to showing Aboriginal people in a more positive light. We’re almost always in the media for something negative or controversial.”
And that’s why this shoot matters. Because representation isn’t just about being seen, it’s about being celebrated, uplifted, and reflected in all your beauty and complexity.
Jasmin, we are so honoured to hold space for you. Your presence is powerful. Your story matters. And we love that we get to be a part of showing the world just how radiant you are.
